Pastor Mike,

What will Heaven be like. What will we do there?

PastorMike

That's a good question Steve and it is certainly an interesting topic. Pop culture would seem to agree. How many books have been written with the author claiming to have gone to heaven and back in recent years? Some people think we will spend our days on clouds playing harps. Others think that we will enjoy many of the same things we enjoy today, but within God's direct presence. According to the News Boys there is going to be plenty of room, big houses, plenty of food and football. And what about those mansions over the hilltop we sing in the old hymns?

In various passages the authors of Scripture try to describe heaven to us. Streets of gold, precious gems everywhere and a crystal sea are just the tip of the iceberg. When one considers that the descriptions are just the best way of describing something they couldn't completely comprehend, it makes it all the more magnificent. We know that we will bask in God's presence, that there will be no more crying or pain. We know that we will be reunited with our loved ones, so long as they knew Jesus personally.

Yet, at the same time, there is so much we do not know. That's where faith comes in. One thing is for sure: Heaven is going to blow earth way. Whatever heaven IS like when we get there, it will be exactly what we've been looking for all of our lives. All of the things that stress us out and cause discontent will no longer play a role. It is going to be, as Jesus put it, "paradise". We will want for nothing. There will be no sin, no evil, no wickedness or injustice. Faith will be rewarded and made complete.

Oh, and I hope that the News Boys are right about that football thing. Pretty sure I'm going to rock at it with my glorified body. ;-)

I hope this is sort of what you were looking for. If you haven't already and want to read all of the Bible passages regarding heaven, do a google search and comb through some of the links. I found several places that put all of the verses in a list for easy reading.

If we have football will we have "Deflategate?" On a more serious note, Heaven will be more than we could ever hope to comprehend here on earth. Think of John trying to explain what he saw in his vision while on Patmos. He did his best to describe the things he saw. With the information that God has provided us we have painted a beautiful picture. How far short are we on being able to describe the beauty and magnitude of Heaven?

Will we be able to recognize our loved ones?

PastorMike

I think so Debbie. When Jesus came back, His disciples recognized Him. When different prophets came back, they too were recognized. We will not, however, be married or get married in heaven. So, that's kinda interesting. :P

I thought was on topic  ;D 1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written:
?Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.?
